From food establishments to Tanning Facilities the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department will tell you how clean the establishments are in the local area.

Score Explanation

Critical violations can directly lead to food borne illness or injury for example temperature of food, potential injury hazards, fire hazards, or toxic items that are improperly used, stored, or labeled.

Critical violations, based on the severity of potential health threat, must be corrected from 1 to 30 days. All critical violations require a follow up visit by the health department inspector. All scores that are below 85, even if there are no critical violations, also require a follow up inspection within 30 days for all original areas inspected.

Scores between 70 and 84 are re-inspected within 30 days to verify that violations have been corrected to bring deficiencies to a score of 85 or above with no critical violations. A notice of intent to suspend their permit is issued for food service establishments, hotels/motels and mobile home parks that score between 60 and 69.

A score below 60 is an immediate closure of the establishment. Examples of causes for automatic closure would be: If there is an immediate health hazard, such as sewage backing up in the establishment; if an establishment is operating without a permit; if the owner or operator interferes with the health inspector's job, or refuses entry to the inspector.
