Environmental Department
Contact:
The environmental department at a local health department is a complex combination of services with an objective to have a safe and sanitary environment for the public in Boyd County. 

The department is responsible for inspecting and handling complaints in Boyd County on all food and retail establishments, school cafeterias, and vendors at fairs.  Food establishments and school cafeterias are inspected twice a year, in addition to, the investigation of complaints.  Each school building and facilities in Boyd County is inspected twice a year.

The environmental department inspects and investigates complaints in Boyd County for:

  • All hotels/motels
  • Mobile home parks
  • Recreational vehicle parks
  • All public swimming pools and spas (Private pools are exempt.)
  • Tattoo studios
  • Body  piercing studios
  • Ear piercing studios
  • Tanning beds
  • Septic tank cleaner trucks 

The environmental department handles complaints and follow up on dog/animal bites.  Onsite sewage system inspections and complaints are part of the ongoing duties of the department.
