Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT)

EPSDT is a program for children from birth to age twenty one (21) who have Medicaid or birth to age nineteen (19) with KCHIP coverage. With scheduled checkups, minor health problems in children can be caught before they become serious. Diseases like chickenpox, mumps and measles can be prevented by routine immunizations. Any physical or mental development problem and hearing or vision problems can be treated.

These services are provided at no cost to family members with Medicaid or KCHIP. Services may be received at your local doctor or the health department clinic.

Preventive Health

Preventive health exams, “Well Baby or Well Child” exams, and school and sports physical exams are provided for ages birth to 18 years of age. The full physical exam includes vision and hearing screening and limited lab testing as needed.  A sliding fee schedule based on household income and number in household determines the cost, if any, for physical exams.  Kentucky Medicaid, Medicare and some insurance companies are accepted for physician services.

Immunizations

Immunizations are provided through the Vaccine for Children program and are free to those who are uninsured or underinsured up to the age of 19 years.  There is a nominal administration fee.  No one is denied services due to inability to pay.  There are no income guidelines for this program, all Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended childhood vaccines are provided. Seasonally flu vaccine is given.
